Choosing a therapist can sometimes be confusing and worrying. Having some idea of how the process works upfront can help to alleviate some of the discomfort.
There is an assessment period which is part of the therapeutic process. These sessions involve gaining a deeper understanding of the things you are struggling with. The assessment period also helps to determine whether we are able to work together. If a joint decision is made to begin therapy, we would then agree on a treatment plan.
The initial sessions help to determine what therapy is best suited to you – either psychodynamic psychotherapy or a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approach. I aim to work collaboratively with my clients to find a good fit between your goals for therapy whilst being mindful of the real-life constraints.
